catching up, strangers, and celebrating my day

geesh, we’ve been busy around here!!!  don’s finally going back to work part time, the garden is coming in, lawns to mow, weeds to pull, hardly any time to take a decent length nap!!  last weekend we had the strangest looking visitor!!!  charon went over to the north carolina border to pick him up, and she kept saying he was fortis’ dad, but he sure didn’t look like the pictures i remember….  do you recognize this guy?? well, i never could get used to that beard, and i think i probably hurt his feelings a little, but geesh, that’s alot of scary hair!!  sam, of course, was all friendly with him, and i just stayed by my charon’s side..just in case.

well, on monday, fortis’ dad had to go back to his walk, as he’s on his way to see maggie in maine…that sounds like a long way off.  but, just when i thought we were getting back to normal, i got a new surprise – i got a Courage Collar!!!  it is so beautiful and it makes me feel even more brave.

it is from the Dublin Dog, and they are donating part of the funds from these collars to help fight K9 cancer.  you can see them here:  https://www.dublindog.com/Dublin-Dog-Store/product_info.php?cPath=51&products_id=494  i think they are just great, and i must say the blue is definitely my color.

so, by now i’m thinking – it must be time to settle down and get back into my routine.  but then this morning charon is just smothering me with hugs and kisses, saying it’s my day today!!!  yep, today is my 14 month ampuversary!!!!  so i am  celebrating with a long (overdue) nap, and when i wake up, i just might decide to take another.

gayle developed a small lump in her right front wrist. biopsy determined it was a soft tissue sarcoma, with amputation feb 17, 2010. she's recovering nicely, taking naps when needed, and enjoying every moment of every wonderful day. in december 2010 we discovered oral melanoma cancer. gayle had two surgeries to remove tumors, but the ugly disease took her from us december 12, 2011. love never ends.

  1. Congratulations!!! 14 months is pretty awesome. I hope you get a nice treat when you wake up from that nap.

  2. What a fantastic accomplishment, sweet Gayle. We are so happy for you, and I got extra treats to help celebrate! I just know you will make even more ampuversaries. We are also very happy that your Don is back to work part time and feeling better. Are you sure that was Fortis’ dad? It sure looks more like a hairy big foot to me. That sure was nice of your family to provide a place for him to get all cleaned up and refreshed.

P.S. You sure look pretty in your courage collar.

  3. Oh my goodness, I can see why you didn’t recognize Brett. I hope you warmed up to him a little…at least enough to give him some tripawd love. 🙂

Good news about the big day. Thanks for giving us all a reason to celebrate. We surely know the drill by now – naps, cheese, and lots of treats. Whoohoo!

  4. Happy ampuversary Gayle!!
I’ll have to save my medicinal nap until next weekend- I’m in class all week and the instructor is kind of strict about staying awake!
But- there will be snacks- and I’ll tell the pugs Grandpa to give them something special too.

  5. Way to go, Gayle! Hogan and I love hearing stories like yours. Your mother obviously takes exceptional care of you. Keep up the great work — both of you.

  6. WOWSA Gayle!

I need a nap now after reading about everything that is going on with you in your world!

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz! Okay, I’m back (a little power nap!)

That is one beautiful collar! It’s got all the words I can think up when I think of you!!! Maybe you can buy Charon one since you guys have both been there for each other!

14 months! OH MY! The Monkeyboys are going to get a little extra something in your honor. Naps aren’t really on their agenda because as you know, boys are goofy!

Yep, I don’t think I would have let that hairy man in the front door either! That’s not Fortis’ dad! Did you see there is a cat in that picture!!! The cat even looks scared of him!

Stay strong and brave (and of course beautiful) And keep that Sam in line!!

  7. Wow- 14 Months!! Happy Ampuversary Gayle!! So awesome! And that collar – you are most definitely a fashionista in our eyes :). Ok, now to talk about that visitor you had – I think the perfect description by his wife Pattie was Grizzly Adams?? Would that be how you would describe our good friend Fortis’ Dad?? I thought for sure that you and your sister would have convinced him to shave off that beard already :(. You know what they say, life is like a box of chocolates.
So happy to hear that you are all doing well. Here’s to many, many more ampuversaries and celebrations!! Whoo hoo!!

  8. Congratulations Gayle! 14 months!!! I know you will say that you owe it all to medicinal naps (and of course, the love of your Charon) So, good soil and extra humidity make your garden grow….apparently it does the the same for the hair on Brett’s face 😉
And, by the way LOVE the courage collar! I might need to get one for Ranger (he looks good in blue too) Enjoy!

  9. 14 months, wow! Thats wonderful. What an inspiration! Love that new collar, it’s a beauty!

  10. I think Sister Charon picked up the wrong dude! That’s not Brett!!! Uh oh. He’s probably still waiting for you on the A/T!

Congratulations Gayle, your ampuversary is PAWESOME news!! And blue is definitely your color, we love it!

Tell Charon it’s just not a good idea to pick up grizzly old mountain men without checking their IDs first. Yikes!

  11. Jerry, lol, that’s what I thought!

I don’t know how I missed this, but what a gorgeous collar! I hope Brett is doing well 🙂 He looks lean and so very different. Many hugs for being there for him, and for being a great puppy.
